Ghosted Figures

2016
Exhibited at Team B Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio

This series of drawings explores the overlap between procedural, computational design processes and conventions of architectural representation. Twenty-five figures derived from a simple circle evolve from a simple rule set that is processed algorithmically. The procedure outputs parametrically generated hatch patterns that yield a subtle sense of depth within the field, and provide a neutral ground within which the similarities and differences of the figures can be noted and evaluated. The drawing suggests a hybrid mode of designing, one which synthesizes intuitive and automatic processes. It embraces techniques and workflows of design computation yet insists on grounding such processes in conventions of representation endemic to the discipline of architecture.
